ELSFIELD
Elsfield really is no more than a few cottages, the church and Manor House spread out along a single country lane
Elsfield Manor was the home from 1919
to 1935 of John Buchan, who was the First Baron Tweedsmuir of Elsfield, one time Governor General of Canada, and well-known author. His ashes are buried in the churchyard.
The
parish church, built in the 13th century, is dedicated to St Thomas of
Canterbury. For the history and full information about the Church of St Thomas of
Canterbury click here.
Elsfield lies to the north-east of Oxford about midway between Oxford's Northern Bypass Road and the B4027 Forest Hill to Islip road.
