Elsfield really is no more than a few cottages, the church and Manor House spread out along a single country lane.

Location map:

Elsfield Manor was the home from 1919 to 1935 of John Buchan, who was the First Baron Tweedsmuir of Elsfield, one time Governor General of Canada, and well-known author. His ashes are buried in the churchyard. The parish church, built in the 13th century, is dedicated to St Thomas of Canterbury.

Elsfield lies to the north-east of Oxford about midway between Oxford's Northern Bypass Road and the B4027 Forest Hill to Islip road.
